Top Five Electric Motor Scooters Review

As the price of gas rockets and oil supplies dwindle, the option of freeing ourselves from the pump becomes more attractive by the day. More and more people are ditching their expensive, thirsty gas guzzlers in favor of cheap, economical and environmentally friendly electric scooters.

As recently as a few years ago, opting for an electric scooter would have been sheer madness. In the early days of electric scooters the batteries were bulky and inefficient, requiring hours of charging for trips of just a few miles. Recently, though, renewed interest in the state of the environment has driven a revolution in technology that has resulted in vastly more efficient, smaller, lighter and more powerful batteries that have made scooters a practical and attractive alternative to the car – especially in the hustle and bustle of the city.

Today's electric scooters are designed to fit every niche. Need a scooter that can hit highway speeds and battle the traffic in the commute? How about a long distance trekker that can take you to the moon and back between trips to the power outlet? Do you need lots of storage space, or does your scooter simply have to look cool? Whatever you need, there's sure to be something to fulfill your requirements. To help you choose your ideal electric scooter we've looked at many of the best sellers to give you our top 5. Our criteria for picking the best consisted of:

  • Top speed
  • Traveling distance
  • Price
  • Comfort

With this in mind we found our favorite 5 electric scooters.

Winning Scooter

After lots of argument we ended with a straight fight between the Zapino and the EVT R30, but after a long discussion and several test drives we settled on the Zapino, if only because it will soon offer the option of an extra battery to boost its range. With a top speed of 30MPH the Zapino presents a very attractive package for tooling around town or heading to the store. The standard battery will take you around 30 miles, but hopefully soon Zapino will be releasing a larger battery which will last for 65 miles between charges.

The Zapino also has a good-sized rear wheel crate for storing an extra battery, your personal belongings and your shopping, allowing you to protect your valuables from the elements while you ride.

The ride itself is very comfortable and smooth. The electric engine makes very little noise so it seems like you are gliding through the traffic. The Zapino is also styled very nicely. It has a retro kind of look that brings to mind a classic Vespa, and it has a very nice finish to the paint and body work. The Zapino comes in a range of different colors with 5 different cool colors to choose from.

The price is average at around $3,500. There are some cheaper models out there, but this scooter has all the benefits of speed and comfort for only a little more. The extra benefits are definitely worth the money.

But what if you don’t want to spend that much or you want something faster? Below we have reviewed four alternative scooters that may tickle your fancy.

Zapino 9.8/10
Conclusions: The Zapino goes at a good speed of 30MPH and the charge lasts for 30 miles, this is perfect for a trip into town or to the store. This scooter is such a good all rounder that we're sure that you will be very happy with it.
Pros: 30MPH ~ 30 miles to the charge ~ Rear wheel crate ~ Higher power battery last for 65 miles.
Cons: Mid price

Zapino 9.8/10

With a top speed of 30 MPH you'll be whizzing around traffic while saving money and leaving a dainty carbon footprint.

The battery will last up to 30 miles but there is an option of an additional battery so it could last up to 65 miles. Excellent rear wheel crate for storage.

Speed 30 MPH great for around town - 9/10
Miles / charge 30 miles but optional extra battery for 65 miles - 10/10
Price Mid range price - 8/10
Comfort Rear wheel crate - 10/10

We were very happy with the Zapino because it ticked all of our boxes.

It had a good top speed, perfect to go around town. It offers a very comfortable ride, and the rear wheel crate is a great size.

Overall 9.8/10

EVT R30 9.5/10

This has a great top speed of 45MPH, allowing you to take it out on the highway, and it can travel up to 40 miles on a charge.

The price is good. At a touch under $3,200 it's about the same as our winner.

Speed 45 MPH - 10/10
Miles / charge 40 miles to the charge - 10/10
Price Good price - 8/10
Comfort Standard, nice and quiet - 8.5/10

If the EVT R30 offered storage space and the option of a second battery it would have won hands down, but the shortfall in optional extras relegated it to a solid second place.

Overall 9.5/10

Vectrix VX-1 8.5/10

Crazy top speed of 62 MPH and a huge battery which should last 68 miles.

Great acceleration, 0-50 in 6.8 seconds as well, but this all comes at a price - around $11,000.

Speed 65 MPH! - 10/10
Miles / charge 68 Miles per charge! - 10/10
Price $11,000 - 1/10
Comfort Standard comfort, uncomfortable when going fast - 8/10

It has a much larger battery than all the others we have reviewed which means it can go faster and travel for longer. It is much more like an electric motor bike. But the price stopped it getting first spot; $7,500 extra is a hell of a lot to pay over the Zapino! However, if money is no object then by all means go for the Vectrix.

Overall 8.5/10

Bravo EVT 168 8.2/10

The top speed for this scooter is 30 MPH – great for going around town. The battery should last for at least 25 miles.

A good price of around $3000.

No noise from the engine, making a comfortable ride.

Speed 30 MPH; great for around town - 9/10
Miles / charge 25-30 miles per charge - 9.5/10
Price Excellent price - 9/10
Comfort Very quiet but no storage - 8.5/10

This scooter is very good. It has a nice top speed, and the battery lasts for a reasonable time. But it didn’t have the extras, like the storage and larger battery. However, it is $500 cheaper than the Zapino, and a great budget option.

Overall 8.2/10

E-Moto 8/10

Our 5th contender is the E-Moto. This is a very nice little scooter with a top speed of 28MPH and a battery range of 30 miles.

It's nice and quiet, making it great for comfort, and It's the cheapest of all the scooters at around $2500.

Speed 28 MPH - 8/10
Miles / charge 25 miles per charge - 9/10
Price Best price! - 9/10
Comfort Standard, quiet engine. - 8.5/10

This is a very lovely and pretty scooter. It doesn’t go as fast as the others, and its battery range is slightly less than the standard at 25 miles as well. This would be great for someone who just wants to pop down to the local store, but it is a small scooter, so it wouldn’t be suitable for everyone.

Overall 8/10
